The software industry faces a pipeline shortage – the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts there will 1.4 million computing job openings in 2020, but only 400,000 graduates with the skills to fill them. BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes today’s publication by the European Commission of a legislative proposal on a framework for the free flow of data in the EU. The draft Regulation, which seeks to ensure the free movement of non-personal data within the EU, will complement the General Data Protection Regulation and create a comprehensive European framework for the free movement of data in the Single Market. BSA | The Software Alliance supports the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy and the DREAMers, who are coworkers, neighbors, and friends. The tech sector - and all sectors of our economy and our society - are made stronger by the contributions of immigrants. We call for a thoughtful approach to immigration policy that upholds our values while supporting our country and our economy. We are disappointed by the administration’s announcement and urge Congress to swiftly enact legislation to reinstate DACA protections and make them permanent thereby preventing any ambiguity about DREAMers’ status in the United States.
