Global: Artificial Intelligence and Copyright Policy

With a view to improving legal certainty and incentivizing socially beneficial and responsible artificial intelligence (AI) development, BSA supports:

  • The development of statutory exceptions or judicial doctrines that permit AI training on lawfully accessed content.
  • Ongoing multi-stakeholder efforts to develop effective, consensus-based technical mechanisms that allow for the expression of preferences on the collection and processing of content in AI training.
  • Copyright protection of the fruits of human creativity, including when that creativity is enhanced by AI tools.
  • The full application of existing copyright enforcement frameworks to AI outputs that infringe copyright.
  • Additional discussions regarding protections for artists from the wrongful dissemination of unauthorized digital replicas.
