Tech Continues Push for Semiconductor Funding

Associations representing the country’s largest tech companies are maintaining pressure on the Biden administration to provide grants and tax credits to incentivize domestic semiconductor production. The global chip shortage and its impact on critical industries such as cars and electronics has made clear how dependent the US is on foreign manufacturers. And it has given trade groups a prime moment to press their case.

“Taking these actions will help to spur US chip manufacturing, solidify US leadership in semiconductor research and development, and better meet the projected long-term growth in the demand for chips,” nine associations wrote in a new letter. It is signed by the Information Technology Industry Council, Semiconductor Industry Association, TechNet and BSA | The Software Alliance, among others. Late last month, Biden initiated a 100-day review of the supply chains for critical goods, including semiconductors, to identify potential vulnerabilities.
