BSA on APRA: Further Improvements Needed

WASHINGTON – BSA | The Software Alliance Senior Vice President of US Government Relations Craig Albright issued the following statement about updated draft privacy language under consideration in Congress:

“BSA appreciates the work of Chair McMorris Rodgers and other members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee to produce a new draft of the American Privacy Rights Act (APRA). The updated version of APRA makes key improvements, including language that better recognizes differences among businesses and makes some clearer distinctions to reflect their different roles in protecting consumer privacy. The new draft also makes welcome clarifications to when and how the AI provisions would apply. BSA remains concerned with elements of this new version of APRA. For example, further improvements are needed to distinguish roles among businesses and ensure accountability and enforcement mechanisms incorporate proven approaches. We look forward to continued engagement with lawmakers to ensure the bill is clear, effective, and workable.”
