BSA Statement on EU Updates to the NIS Directive

BRUSSELS – December 21, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the European Commission’s efforts to update the NIS Directive to keep pace with the evolving threat landscape, especially as economies and societies become increasingly digitized. Heightened focus on supply-chain cybersecurity risk management and voluntary information sharing will contribute to adopting a much-needed holistic approach to cybersecurity.

“The European Commission’s risk-management and technology-neutral approach will give companies the agility they need to effectively deal with increasingly sophisticated cyber threats,” said Isabelle Roccia, Senior Manager, Policy – EMEA at BSA. “The NIS Directive has played a positive role in setting common minimum capabilities across the Union. As the co-legislators work on NIS 2.0, further harmonization and coordination with sectoral legislation, such as the DORA proposal for the financial sector, will help strengthen overall resilience.”
