BSA Statement on Proposed Immigration Executive Order

WASHINGTON – April 21, 2020 – There are a number of serious questions and concerns about entirely suspending legal immigration. The pandemic does not stop at national borders and a globally-coordinated response is needed to address the enormous health and economic effects. Immigrants to the US serve in our public health system, as first responders, in food and agriculture, in our energy sectors, in transportation and logistics, in public works, in the military, and in our communications and IT sectors – in short, immigrants serve in every sector identified by the US Government as Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce. BSA strongly urges the Administration to consider the role immigrants play in the pandemic response as well as the response and reopening of the economy, and to consult with relevant stakeholders before taking action.
