BSA Welcomes Delaware Personal Data Privacy Act
WASHINGTON – BSA | The Software Alliance applauds the enactment of consumer privacy legislation in Delaware, marking the 13th state with comprehensive consumer privacy protections. Matthew Lenz, Senior Director of State Advocacy at BSA, released the following statement on yesterday’s enactment of HB 154.
“BSA appreciates the enactment of the Delaware Personal Data Privacy Act, which aligns with other state consumer privacy laws and clearly recognizes the distinct roles and obligations of controllers and processors of consumers’ data. The Delaware Personal Data Privacy Act gives Delaware citizens strong privacy protections, creating clarity and confidence in how their data is used and protected.
In 2023 alone, eight states have passed comprehensive consumer data privacy law — with all eight adopting the same structural model for protecting consumer privacy. The strong focus on privacy at the state level demonstrates the importance of advancing national privacy legislation that creates strong protections for all US citizens. As many states adjourn their legislative sessions, BSA will continue to engage with policymakers at both the state and federal level on comprehensive privacy legislation.
