BSA Welcomes European Parliament Plenary Vote on New EU E-Evidence Rules
BRUSSELS – June 13, 2022 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the European Parliament Plenary vote on Europe’s e-Evidence Regulation, paving the way for a harmonized system for law enforcement access to electronic evidence across the EU. Matteo Quattrocchi, Director, Policy – EMEA at BSA, offered the following statement.
“The EU’s e-Evidence Regulation will provide strong fundamental rights protections for EU citizens, an efficient framework for European law enforcement authorities, and greater legal certainty for service providers. Improving cross-border access to e-evidence is a complex, long-term issue. BSA and our members remain strongly supportive of ongoing European and international efforts in this space, particularly in facilitating cooperation among like-minded partners. We encourage a renewed impetus in the EU-US CLOUD Act negotiations, which would further strengthen safeguards for transatlantic data flows and empower law enforcement authorities with modern cooperation mechanisms.”
