BSA Welcomes Passage of OPEN Government Data Act

WASHINGTON – December 22, 2018 – BSA | The Software Alliance commends today’s passage of OPEN Government Data Act, included as Title II of the Federal Evidence Based Policymaking Act. By making non-sensitive government data more readily available in machine-readable formats, the bill will improve the efficiency and transparency of government operations and create new opportunities for the development of artificial intelligence.  “Government data is a national resource that is underutilized,” said Victoria Espinel, President and CEO of BSA | The Software Alliance. “The OPEN Government Data Act will make non-sensitive government datasets more freely available so that they can be leveraged to improve the delivery of public services and enhance the development of AI. Thank you to Speaker Paul Ryan, Congressman Derek Kilmer, and Senators Patty Murray, Ben Sasse, and Brian Schatz for your leadership on this bill.”
