Japan’s G7 Data-Flow Focus, IPEF Digital Rules Likely to Overlap

BSA | The Software Alliance Policy Director Joseph Whitlock discusses how Japan’s proposed international data flows governance body can build trust in data transfers.
DFFT and G7 efforts are complementary to IPEF, said Global Data Alliance Executive Director and BSA | The Software Alliance Policy Director Joseph Whitlock. “The position Japan is proposing aligns with other like-minded partners,” he said. Like those agreements and negotiations, DFFT underscores “the importance of seamless data transfers, the freedom to pursue policy objectives, the renunciations of discrimination of non-national services and products, minimizing trade-restrictive effects, and due consideration for trading partners’ laws through interoperable legal frameworks,” according to Whitlock.
